deep trench with heavy equipment installing large sewer pipe infrastructure

This project is addresses existing sewer infrastructure deficiencies and future capacity needs for Bend's Southwest Sewer Basin.

Multiple deficiencies along the Amethyst/Mahogany sewer line were identified in the 2014 Collection System Master Plan and the 2018 Public Facilities Plan. This project, which is identified as the SW Sewer Basin Improvements project, will address these deficiencies in addition to constructing a new sanitary sewer trunk line. It will also include decommissioning several aging pump stations. Additionally, this project will accommodate future sewer connections for residents who are on private septic systems, along with undeveloped parcels along Highway 97 and the UGB expansion areas that are currently unsewered.

PROJECT PHASES

This project is being constructed in various phases to help break up the proposed work, which can be seen in the map provided below.

Map of SW Sewer Basin Improvement project phases

Phase 1 - COMPLETE

The replacement of 200 feet of an existing sewer main along Amethyst Street that was undersized for current sewer flows.

  • Completed on July 2, 2021 (see image below)

Phase 2A - COMPLETED

This phase included the installation of approximately 1,700 feet of a new 18-inch gravity sewer main, multiple manhole structures and reconstruction of an existing multi-use path. This project will serve future phases of construction in SW Bend as well as provide sewer for a new affordable housing development.

  • Completed on October 7, 2021 (see image below)

Phase 2B - COMPLETED

This phase includes the installation of approximately 2,300 feet of new 15-inch gravity sewer main, multiple manhole structures, the decommission of existing drill hole facilities and sanitary sewer pump stations.

Additionally, this project will install upgraded storm water facilities, concrete curbs, full street construction and realignment, and the reconstruction of an existing canal crossing. This sewer will alleviate deficiencies in the existing sewer system as well as provide capacity for future septic-to-sewer conversions.

Phases 3 & 4

Design and construction of these phases is still to be determined.
