CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - BROSTERHOUS ROAD

The City of Bend will begin additional construction on a sidewalk and sewer extension project under the railroad bridge on Brosterhous Rd. between Murphy Rd. and Knott Rd. This project is estimated to begin in Mid-October with estimated completion in late spring of 2022.

The project includes installation of a shared use path sidewalk for pedestrians and bikes under the railroad bridge that will connect to existing sidewalks to the north and south. Also included in the work is an extension of the sewer line within Brosterhous Rd.

Road and lane closures will be required during construction:

  • A one-week full road closure of Brosterhous Rd. to vehicle traffic at the railroad crossing between Murphy Rd. and Knott Rd. will be required. Use signed detour.
  • The northbound lane of Brosterhous Rd. will remain closed to vehicle traffic through the end of
    December.
  • Access to pedestrians and bikes will remain open during both the full road and lane closures
  • During construction, heavy equipment will be operating close to residences. Please stay safe and keep children and pets away from the construction area.
  • Detour includes Murphy Rd., Country Club Dr. and Knott Rd.

PROJECT UPDATES

Murphy Corridor Improvements Project Update - August 20, 2020

Post Date:08/24/2020 4:47 PM

Thank you for your interest in the Murphy Corridor Improvements Project. The Murphy Corridor Improvements Project addresses safety concerns, connectivity, and mobility issues in southeast Bend.

Construction of a 3-lane roadway with bike lanes, sidewalks, and safe crossings is currently underway between Country Club Drive to Brosterhous Road. Construction of this phase of the project is planned to be completed in early September.

The City will be constructing the final segments of the Murphy Corridor Improvements Project between September 2020 and August 2021. The next phase of the project (Murphy Road & Country Club Drive roundabout construction) will begin on September 8 with a full intersection closure. Please see the detour map for an exhibit showing project locations, road closures, and detours. Local access to residences and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times. The construction of the Country Club roundabout is expected to be completed in November 2020, weather permitting.

Join Us Online for a Virtual Open House!

In light of restrictions on public gatherings, the City of Bend invites you to attend the Murphy Corridor Improvements virtual open house online at www.BendMurphyProject.com. This online resource will cover construction activities and timelines, how to stay informed during construction, traffic impacts & detours, and will provide the opportunity to interact remotely with the City and its contractors.

Construction Activities for the Upcoming Week

  • In preparation for the next phase of work (construction of the Country Club roundabout), crews will continue clearing and grubbing in the southeast corner of Murphy Road and Country Club Drive.
  • Construction of a temporary two-way bypass road is underway. The bypass road will accommodate traffic around the Country Club roundabout construction area. The bypass road will open on Tuesday, September 8, and will connect Country Club Drive (south) to Murphy Road (east).
  • Sidewalks and islands will be poured on the northeast and northwest ends of Murphy Road.
  • Final paving will be completed along the segment between Brosterhous Road and Country Club Drive. Please watch for intermittent flagging.
  • Work will continue in the City right of way on Murphy Road, in front of a segment of the Stonehaven neighborhood. The work includes cutting the walkway at the fence line, which will result in removing the existing sidewalk. Please note, pedestrian access will be detoured in this area through August.

Upcoming Traffic Changes

Traffic changes in effect through September 7:

  • Westbound traffic detour on Murphy Road between Brosterhous Road to Country Club Drive.
  • Eastbound traffic on Murphy Road will be maintained.
  • Brown Trout Place will be closed at Murphy Road when westbound traffic on Murphy Road is detoured.

Traffic changes are in effect September 8-November:

  • There will be a full closure at the intersection of Murphy Road and Country Club Drive during the construction of the Country Club Drive roundabout. Local access to residences and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times. During the intersection closure, a temporary two-way bypass road will connect Country Club Dr. (south) to Murphy Rd. (east). The bypass road will provide a temporary roadway connection toward the area of Jewell Elementary School and south toward the Bend Fire Station. Please see the attached Murphy Road and Country Club Drive Detour map.

An interactive map of closures and detours can be found online at www.bendoregon.gov/traffic.
