Arbor Day 2024

Two events were held. The first was an educational event on the importance of pollinators. This event was held at Hollinshead Park. There were three Education Stations that rotated throughout the morning.

Scavenger Hunt - The kids were tasked with finding tree related answers to scavenger questions within the park.

Tree Talk - Kids learned the benefits of trees and some interesting facts.

Pollinator Talk - Kids learned about the different kinds of pollinators and how they benefit trees.

The second event was a Tree Planting at Pine Ridge Elementary School with the "Green Team". These kids already understood the value and benefits of tree and were ready to plant a new Linden Tree in their courtyard.

Arbor Day 2023

Several Events were held during Arbor month. The first event was at Hollinshead Park where a new fruit tree was planted by kids from Pilot Butte Middle School.

The kids also learned about the value of trees.

.....and learned about the importance of pollinators in our environment.

The second Arbor Day event was at the Westside School where a new tree was planted to replace a tree that was lost the previous year.

The tree was planted using a Compost Tea.

 The new Vanderwolf Pine at Westside School.

And Finally, Bend Tree City joined the festivities downtown at the annual Earth Day Fair.

Arbor Day 2022

It was great to have an in-person Arbor Day event. The 2022 event was held in Discovery Park and was attended by several hardy Bend Area Life Learners. The group learned about the importance of Pollinators and received a gift bag with seeds and Peat Pellets.

Then it was off to plant a tree. But first they learned about the new Ponderosa Pine tree they were going to plant and about planting with Compost Tea. The kids eagerly helped out with the planting despite the very cold weather.

Arbor Day 2021

Once again COVID postponed any opportunity for an Arbor Day celebration. However, our Tree City Partners at BPRD planted a new Ponderosa Pine tree to replace a tree that was lost due to storm damage.

Arbor Day 2020

Due to COVID, there was no Arbor Day Event celebration. The Park District did plant a tree in recognition of Oregon Arbor Week. The City received a "Peace Tree". This seedling Ginko tree was grown from a seed collected from a Ginko Tree that somehow survived the Hiroshima atomic bombing. These seedling trees were distributed to towns in Oregon in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Forestry, Oregon Community Trees and the One Sunny Day initiative. This Ginko tree doesn't look like much now, but it will grow to be a strong and magnificent shade tree.

Arbor Day 2019

The 2019 event was held in Hollinshead Park. The Bend Area Life Learners, a home school group, joined in on the festivities. They started out by potting their own Spruce tree seedling to take home with them.

Then they went on a tree walk to learn how trees grow.

They finished the day by helping plant a new Ponderosa Pine tree in Hollinshead Park.

Arbor Day 2018 - 

The 2018 event was held in Drake Park. A group of kids from Kenwood School joined in the activities. They each received a potted ponderosa pine tree provided by Pacific Corp. 

They also assisted with the planting of a Blue Atlas Cedar tree.

Another Arbor Day activity in 2071 was a tree walk around town.

 A Vander Wolf Pine was planted in Pioneer Park.
