Bend designates April as Arbor Month.
Arbor Day
The first Arbor Day in America was originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska, by J. Sterling Morton. On April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted in Nebraska.
In Oregon, the State Legislature designates the first full week of April as Arbor Week. This provides more flexibility for groups celebrating Arbor Day.
In Bend, the City Council proclaimed the entire month of April as Arbor Month. This is due in part because of Bends unpredictable weather. Bend holds a variety of different events in recognition of Arbor Day. Many include a tree planting somewhere within the City on public property.
