SUMMARY:Public meeting for new roundabout at Brookswood Blvd./ Powers Rd.
DESCRIPTION:The City of Bend is holding an open house for a new roundabout planned at Brookswood Blvd. and Powers Rd. No formal presentation is planned; the public is invited to drop in at any time. \nConstruction is scheduled to begin in mid-July and continue through October. Signed\, temporary detour routes will be in place during that time to allow the contractors full access to the construction area. The project is being funded from the 2011 transportation General Obligation (G.O.) Bond program. The total project cost is around $3 million. \nThe G.O. Bond program is a voter-approved package of street and intersection improvements located throughout the city. The bond measure authorized $30 million for eight separate projects which were selected based on known safety and congestion issues\, geographic location\, and the opportunity to provide local construction jobs. Construction will take place through 2014. \nFor more information\, visit www.bendoregon.gov/GOBond.

These ideas will serve as the basis for group work with the goal of finding a handful of “Vision Accelerators” that will be highlighted at the Accelerate Bend end celebration on September 13. Moe Carrick of Moementum\, Inc. is volunteering her time to serve as the workshop facilitator.

SUMMARY:Open House to review proposed noise code amendments
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend an open house on proposed amendments to the City of Bend Noise Code. The meeting will be held on Monday\, May 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall\, 710 NW Wall St. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and share your ideas. \nCity staff has met with a group of interested and informed citizens\, including event coordinators and neighborhood representatives\, in an effort to develop code amendments in response to concerns about noise. \nThe committee worked to clarify where and how noise is measured and to identify appropriate decibel limits to ensure that residents won’t be disturbed by noise in their homes after 10 p.m. This included developing a permit process for limited exceptions to the noise ordinance requiring neighborhood notification and a point of contact during events. There was also agreement to establish escalating penalties for repeat violations. \nThe proposed code revisions are posted on the City website\, www.bendoregon.gov\, on the City Recorder’s page. The City Council is expected to consider these amendments at its May 16\, 2012 meeting. \nIf you are unable to attend the open house on May 7\, please send your comments or questions to City Recorder Robyn Christie at rchristie@ci.bend.or.us or 541-388-5517.

SUMMARY:Bend City Council Hosts internationally recognized designer for public lecture
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of a unique and innovative partnership with the City of Bend\, Cascadia Green Building Council announced today that its CEO\, Jason F. McLennan\, will deliver a free public lecture on January 30. \nThe lecture is sponsored by Bend’s Mayor Jeff Eager and the City Council. McLennan\, an internationally renowned speaker\, will discuss community transformation and the future of architecture and design. He also will address opportunities for Bend to embrace restorative development principles. \nMcLennan’s visit to Bend kicks off a unique collaboration between the City and Cascadia along with Cascadia’s parent organization\, the International Living Future Institute. The Institute is a nonprofit organization that developed and administers the Living Building Challenge™\, the world’s most progressive and stringent building standard. Living Building Challenge projects are quickly emerging around the world and demonstrate the highest level of environmental performance currently possible. \nThe City’s partnership with the Institute began in late 2010\, when a group of Bend’s leading architects\, planners and engineers came together to enter the Institute’s Living City Design Competition. What emerged was the Bend Living City Project\, which was supported by the action items of the BEND 2030 Vision. The Project has since made an important contribution to Bend’s long-range planning. The City now hopes to work with the Institute to apply the Living Building Challenge framework to future planning projects yet to be determined. \n“We’re excited about this phenomenal collaboration\,” says Mayor ProTem Jodie Barram. “The BEND 2030 Vision\, a Central Area Plan that needs re-invigorating\, and the Institute’s ability to look at sustainable systems in a way that will benefit Bend long term can be transformative.” \nThe lecture will be at the Tower Theatre\, 835 Northwest Wall Street\, Bend. Doors open at 6 PM and the lecture begins at 6:30. RSVP today to save your seat: http://livingcity.eventbrite.com/ \nAbout Cascadia Green Building Council: Founded in 1999\, Cascadia is a proud chapter of both the US and Canada Green Building Councils and serves the green building community in Oregon\, Washington\, British Columbia and Alaska. SUMMARY:Special Events Permit Open House
DESCRIPTION:The City of Bend is holding an open house to present changes related to the revised Special Events Permit. As a result of feedback from the community\, City of Bend staff began reviewing the Special Events Code as well as the internal process for scheduling and managing these events. A proposal was presented to the City Council on December 7\, 2011 and with their support staff is initiating an open house for interested parties to discuss these proposed changes. \nAt the open house\, staff will provide a summary of the permit process. After the presentation there will be an opportunity for the public to voice questions\, comments and concerns in an informal manner. As these changes will impact our residents\, the City wants to ensure that potentially affected businesses and residents are aware of the proposed changes and that the public has an opportunity to provide feedback.
