The Data Portal is designed to provide access to transportation-related data. The dashboards available through the links below reveal data from multiple themes and years. The user can employ various filters and selections in order to examine areas of interest.

Link to Crash Data in Bend

BMPO is charged with performance-based planning and emphasizes a deliberate, thoughtful, and structured approach that ensures transportation projects are based on full information and benefit the public. Performance measures track progress toward attaining goals and objectives.

The BMPO uses performance measures to:

  • Assess how well the transportation system is operating
  • Provide information to support decisions
  • Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of transportation project and service delivery
  • Demonstrate transparency and accountability to Bend's citizens

This project is currently in development. As we learn more about visualizing data in useful ways, we will be experimenting with the presentation and analyses of transportation data. We will be adding more analysis over time. There are likely 'bugs' that will need to be fixed as we develop the data analysis. We appreciate your patience and welcome you to share your experiences to help us improve.

Coordination for transportation data is underway with a project for regional data collaboration. The ODOT Region 4 Data Warehouse Action Plan, drafted in 2019, drives this process. This project is being managed by Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Region 4, working together with key regional partner agencies including the City of Bend, BMPO, and Deschutes County.

This project is designed to provide the ability for multiple agencies to access transportation data collected by each agency to enable agency staff to more efficiently perform work tasks, and ultimately to improve plans, policies, and decisions. The types of transportation data included in the project are performance, inventory, and maintenance records, with a focus on performance data.

Regional data sharing is desired for day-to-day operational efforts, regional planning efforts, and to support federal reporting requirements. Large initiatives, such as the Bend Parkway Plan and the Transportation System Plan (which is currently being updated), would also benefit significantly from better interagency data sharing. Partners indicated a strong desire to tie performance measurement into research and evaluation processes, ultimately to ensure that projects are more data driven.

This project included local stakeholder outreach, a look at statewide efforts around the implementation of the Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) Performance Measures, an evaluation of alternatives, and the development of a Framework for Implementation.
