Disability Rights Oregon Transit Settlement
The DRO Transit Settlement Agreement was fulfilled and dismissed against the City for Bend and Bend Area Transit (BAT), nearly 3 years early.
Being able to live a spontaneous life is what an accessible transportation system can provide.
The City of Bend and BAT Transit (now called Cascades East Transit) can now proudly share the fully accessible fixed route bus system with all community members and visitors. A total of 182 bus stops now provide independence to live, learn, work and play in Bend which is at the core of the city-wide mission.
The Committee for Accessible Transportation (CAT), a city committee, provided an opportunity for members of the community with disabilities and advocates to provide guidance on meeting the requirements of the Agreement. Their nearly 5 year service was an important factor in completing the Agreement 3 years early. Partnerships and collaboration are key to a successful outcome and the intense work clearly demonstrated the importance of this.
