The Bend Block Party is reserved by the Neighborhood Districts recognized in Bend Code Chapter 1.70. 

Funding from the City-provided Community Engagement Grants purchased this trailer to encourage building connected neighborhoods. 

Community organizations, local businesses and/or groups interested in reserving the trailer can do so by contacting the Neighborhood District in which a proposed event is taking place, to determine if a partnership or collaboration is possible.

The Bend Block Party is designed to be used in outdoor settings such as parks and streets in Bend.

Parks 

The City has worked with Bend Park & Recreation District to develop a streamlined process for Neighborhood Districts to reserve the trailer and an accompanying park within the neighborhood's boundaries. This can be done through the Bend Block Party Reservation Form. 

Here is a list of parks that are pre-approved for Bend Block Party events along with other valuable information about working with our Parks partners. Other facilities and parks not listed may be available for an event, but will need to be requested directly through Bend Park & Recreation website.

City Streets

The City allows Bend Block Party events for up to 150 attendees on City streets, as long as they meet certain criteria. Neighborhood Districts can obtain a free permit to hold a block party on neighborhood roads by initiating the process through the Bend Block Party Reservation Form.

Private Venues

The trailer can also be used at private venues in Bend such as schools or other event spaces, but the Neighborhood District must arrange for this venue separately from reserving the trailer. The trailer can still be reserved through the Bend Block Party Reservation Form, and is subject to approval by City staff. 

Reservations for the trailer can be made up to six months in advance of an event.

Reservations may not be made less than 30 days' prior to an event to allow time for permitting and scheduling, depending on the type of event you are having. 

• A general timeline for trailer reservations is below:
  • Trailer reservations for reserving a Bend Park & Recreation District park or facility must be received 45 days’ in advance. Facilities and parks not listed in this document may be available for an event, but will need to be requested directly through Bend Park & Recreation District website.
  • Trailer reservations must be received 30 days’ in advance to obtain a permit to close a neighborhood street. The City allows Bend Block Party Trailer events on City streets that meet certain criteria. The City will waive the permit fee for closing a street for a block party, so long as it doesn’t require a Special Events Permit.
  • A Special Events Permit is required for events with over 150 people. This permit requires 90 days’ advance notice and has additional requirements and expenses not waived by the City.
  • Trailer reservations must be received 30 days’ in advance to obtain a Noise Variance Permit (for events that do not meet the City’s code-permitted noise limits, or events that include professional entertainment like a band or DJ) - through the City of Bend Permit Center, which must be applied for separately from the Trailer reservation application.

There is no cost to reserve the trailer, however there are differing costs depending on the type of event and location held.

Parks

For reserving one of the pre-approved parks for an event, the fees are as follows:

Regular rental fees apply unless otherwise specified. They are as follows:
• Less than 31 attendees: $50
• 31 to 60 attendees: $75
• 61 to 100 attendees: $125

If the park has restrooms, there will be an additional fee of $45 per service, per toilet before and after the event. 

Streets

For obtaining a permit to close a City street for an event, there will be no cost to the Neighborhood Districts. There may be costs associated with holding an event on a roadway such as portable toilet rentals, barricades and signage and event notifications. 

After a Neighborhood District has submitted a reservation request for the trailer, the City of Bend will begin checking reservation/permitting needs and will reach out to the reserving party to confirm details of their reservation. Please note, reservations are not automatically confirmed by submitting a reservation application.

The City is offering trailer drop-off and pick-up for every Bend Block Party reservation made by Bend Neighborhood Districts.

The City will coordinate with the neighborhood and venue to determine placement of the trailer prior to a Bend Block Party event. There are certain restrictions on where the trailer can be parked, but City staff will attempt to find the closest location to the gathering place identified. A hand-truck and chair dolly are located in the trailer for ease of moving items. 

No. Events utilizing the Bend Block Party must be open and welcoming to everyone in the community. Please refer to the Bend Block Party Community Engagement Trailer Rules and Regulations for more information about trailer use at events.

• All events must be organized for a public purpose. In general, a public purpose is defined as an activity or service that is open to all members of the public, regardless of race, color, national origin, age (if the individual is 18 years of age or older), religion, creed, sex (including pregnancy), gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, religious affiliation, veteran status, or genetic information., and which does not promote a particular religion.
• Events may not discriminate against individuals with disabilities, and sponsors must make all programs accessible to individuals with disabilities, as set forth in the ADA.
• Utilizing the Trailer for private events, including, but not limited to, birthday parties and graduation parties is strictly prohibited.
• Event organizers should keep in mind how to make the event welcoming to everyone and how to create a safe space for all.
