Debris Burning

Debris burning in areas outside of the Bend city limits that is served by Bend Fire & Rescue and Deschutes Rural Fire Protection District #2 is currently CLOSED.  Debris burning inside of the city limits of Bend is permanently banned by City ordinance.

DEBRIS BURNING HAS RE-OPENED FOR AREAS OUTSIDE THE CITY OF BEND AS OF MONDAY OCTOBER 28TH, 2024. Burning can be shut down day to day due to expected high winds or air stagnation days. Please call before you burn.

Recreational Fires, Campfires, and Warming Fires

Recreational fires, campfires and warming fires (using clean dry firewood only) are still allowed within the city limits but we ask you take extra precaution with these fires. They are typically allowed year-round but can be closed if weather or hazard conditions occur such as extreme wildfire danger, etc. Please call the burn information line (541-322-6335) each time before you burn to ensure burning is allowed in your area.  Follow all safety tips in the burn regulations and ensure your fire is completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving it. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in a citation and/or being reported to DEQ.

Burning Tips

Tips for safe and legal burning:

  • Call the burn information line at 541-322-6335 before lighting a fire to ensure burning is open for the day.  Weather conditions and fire season have daily impacts.
  • Know if burning is allowed at your location.
  • Have a copy of the burn regulations on site (downloadable from above or hard copy available from any fire station).
  • Obtain any needed permits for the fire. See the burn permit tabs below for more info
  • Follow all requirements within the burn regulations and permit.

Please follow all safety tips in the burn regulations and ensure your fire is completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving it. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in a citation. Please review the burn regulations above to ensure your fire has the appropriate clearances and safety precautions before having a fire.

At this time, no open fires are approved for any City of Bend, Deschutes County or Oregon Department of Transportation owned land and right of ways. This includes warming and cooking fires. Propane heaters and cooking appliances can be used if used safely and while following the manufactures guidelines. Permission is needed from the property owner for any fires and this permission has NOT been granted for these properties. Click here for the City of Bend policy.
