Check out ways to get involved with your City of Bend Police Department.

The City of Bend Police Department has a variety of opportunities for people who wish to volunteer their time to help enhance the quality of life in Bend, as well as gain experience or learn new job skills at the same time.

Community Academy

Interested in learning more about operations at the Bend Police Department? Community Academy is an excellent first step!

The Bend Police Department Community Academy has received recognition as a national and regional model and continues to be a highly popular program in the Bend community.

This class is held in the spring and meets once a week for nine weeks. The goal of the program is to inform and educate participants about the Bend Police Department and the various ways it carries out its mission. Instruction includes Narcotics, Traffic, SWAT, K9s, Officer Survival and more. The classes are taught by officers chosen according to their specific area of expertise in law enforcement.

Held each spring, the Academy can accommodate 40 students per session, normally beginning around the end of March with graduation in May. Classes are held Tuesday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is no charge for the Academy.

The Bend Police Department's 2024 Community Academy will take place from April 2 through June 4. The application period is now closed.

Cadet

Want to serve your community, while exploring a future career in law enforcement? Then we are looking for you!

The Bend Police Department Cadet program provides supplemental personnel for routine police department activities, broaden the capabilities of the department to handle unusual events and emergencies, enhance public service, and garner citizen support and understanding of the police function through citizen involvement.

Cadet Program

Basic Qualifications

Must be a citizen of the United States
Must be 15 to 21 years of age
If enrolled in a school, must maintain a GPA of at least 2.5
Copy of high school transcript or certificate of enrollment (if still in school)
Clear criminal history
Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license and have a good driving record
Parental approval if under 18

Disqualifiers for Cadet Program

The following will disqualify you from being hired as a Bend Cadet Officer:

Felony conviction
Misdemeanor conviction for:
- Domestic violence (DV);
- Crime of dishonesty; and/or,
- Crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another.
Illegal manufacture, transport, or sale of a controlled substance.
