The City of Bend has technology in place that can help to notify you if there is a potential leak at your property. You can proactively manage your water use and set up alerts with the City of Bend's Customer Water Use WaterSmart Portal. If you identify a leak on your property there are several possible ways to stop the water, until you or a professional repair person can address it.

LEAKS IN AN IRRIGATION LINE

How to turn off your Irrigation system

  • DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN OFF YOUR WATER AT YOUR CITY OF BEND METER BOX
  • Most irrigation systems will have an Isolation Valve that will stop flow to the irrigation system backflow prevention device.

  • Irrigation can also be turned off at the backflow prevention device itself.

YOUR BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE PROTECTS YOUR DRINKING WATER

Irrigation systems must have their own backflow prevention device to eliminate pollutants from entering private domestic water systems. Learn more about backflow prevention requirements at bendoregon.gov/backflow.

LEAKS AT THE SPRINKLER

Sprinkler heads can be easily damaged by maintenance equipment, freezing, or other accidental impacts.

Water escaping from the top of the sprinkler when running is likely a cracked sprinkler body or faulty wiper seal seal and should be replaced.  While they seem small they can add up to a substantial amount of water use especially in peak season.

REPAIRING A BROKEN SPRINKLER LINE

A "slip fix" or telecope repair coupler is extremely useful for lateral line repairs.

MOVING A SPRINKLER

Moving or adding sprinklers may be necessary to adapt to a maturing landscape, adjust a head that is out of alignment or improve head to head coverage in your landscape.
