ECLIPSE NEWS - HELPFUL CONTACT INFORMATION

Central Oregon is expected to host more than 200,000 people during this exciting eclipse event.

The City of Bend is a member of the Central Oregon Emergency Information Network (COEIN), which works to get you the important information you may need. Check it out:

A non-emergency information hotline 211 will also be activated through the eclipse. Call 211 or click 211info.org for information about traffic, wildfire hazards, drinking water or restroom locations and much more!

GARBAGE PICK UP - PUT OUT CARTS THE NIGHT BEFORE

To avoid contributing to higher traffic volumes associated with the eclipse, garbage companies that serve the Bend area are moving up commercial and residential collection times by a couple hours. Effective through Tuesday, August 22, Bend Garbage & Recycling and Cascade Disposal are asking customers to put carts out the night before their service day. Collection times will start in the early morning. Commercial customers should also have containers accessible and ready the night before their service day.

Council Goals

Council Goals are adopted in the spring and drive the City’s two-year budget and work plans. Council goals represent a renewed focus on core services: public safety, infrastructure investment, and community and economic development.

Improving roads, reducing congestion and improving safety for people in cars, on bikes and on foot is one of the top Council priorities. Here are the City's short term and long term transportation strategies to implement this goal:

Downtown Parking

Over the years, the City has received numerous complaints when vehicles parked in the angled stalls on Wall and Bond streets stick out into the travel lanes.

Now that new striping is painted on Wall and Bond streets, vehicles too long for the stall will begin receiving citations. To best communicate the change, the City is issuing warnings throughout the summer to educate drivers of longer vehicles.

The recently painted stalls are standard size for angle parking according to federal rules. The old stalls were the same size but the paint was worn off so it was harder to see.

Backflow Testing for Drinking Water Safety

Don’t forget to get your backflow assembly tested for public health! Water customers are required to hire a private backflow tester to check landscape irrigation backflow assemblies yearly. Backflow assemblies prevent potential contamination of our drinking water.
