SUMMARY:Open House to review proposed noise code amendments
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend an open house on proposed amendments to the City of Bend Noise Code. The meeting will be held on Monday\, May 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall\, 710 NW Wall St. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and share your ideas. \nCity staff has met with a group of interested and informed citizens\, including event coordinators and neighborhood representatives\, in an effort to develop code amendments in response to concerns about noise. \nThe committee worked to clarify where and how noise is measured and to identify appropriate decibel limits to ensure that residents won’t be disturbed by noise in their homes after 10 p.m. This included developing a permit process for limited exceptions to the noise ordinance requiring neighborhood notification and a point of contact during events. There was also agreement to establish escalating penalties for repeat violations. \nThe proposed code revisions are posted on the City website\, www.bendoregon.gov\, on the City Recorder’s page. The City Council is expected to consider these amendments at its May 16\, 2012 meeting. \nIf you are unable to attend the open house on May 7\, please send your comments or questions to City Recorder Robyn Christie at rchristie@ci.bend.or.us or 541-388-5517.

SUMMARY:Sewer Charges Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The City of Bend is holding a workshop on a proposed Extra Strength Charge (ESC) sewer methodology. The meeting will be held Wednesday\, Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Bend City Hall\, 710 NW Wall St. \nThe updating of the City’s ESC policy would categorize businesses by the strength of the sewer effluent that is discharged from a business into the City sewer system. Rates will vary for the various tiers under consideration. The City currently has an ESC but it is not equitable when considering the wastewater strength of all dischargers. \nAt the workshop\, staff will provide a summary of the draft policy. After the presentation there will be an opportunity for the public to voice questions\, comments and concerns in an informal manner with staff and the Council. As these changes will impact our residential and business customers\, the City wants to ensure that potentially affected businesses are aware of the proposed changes and that the public has an opportunity to become involved in updating the ESC policy. \nFor more information\, contact the City of Bend Business Advocate\, Jon Skidmore at 541-693-2175 or jskidmore@ci.bend.or.us. \nStandard Operating Procedure for Commercial Wastewater Strength Classification \nLink to more information.
