Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Program
Every 2 - 3 years, the Bend MPO conducts a competitive application process for transportation-related projects seeking funding. The STBG program is a flexible funding source that may be used for a variety of programs and projects within the Bend MPO, such as:
- Bicycle and pedestrian improvements, including trails
- Signal and technology projects
- Safety projects
- Roadway projects
- Capital costs for transit projects, purchased service
- Planning projects
- Travel options programs (including Safe Routes to Schools)

2022 Call for Projects: Project Applications Received (Nov. 2022)
- Gilchrist Bridge Replacement Design, BPRD
- Develop 30% design plans for replacing the Gilchrist Bridge (bike/ped bridge connecting Riverfront St to Columbia Park)
- Deschutes River Trail at Archie Briggs: Grade Separation Feasibility Study, City of Bend
- Planning and preliminary design
- Determine feasibility of a grade separated crossing of the DRT across Archie Briggs Rd
- Stress Reduction for Bike Lanes: 2nd, 3rd, 9th & 15th Streets, City of Bend

- Nov 2, 2022 TAC meeting: Informal review; opportunity for applicants to present projects/TAC questions
- Dec 7, 2022 TAC meeting: Evaluate projects and make funding recommendation to the Policy Board
- Dec 13, 2022 Policy Board meeting: Applicant presentations and awarding of funds
- Jan - Mar 2023 Develop 2024-2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) which includes information on funds dedicated to this competitive application process
