Meet the Police Chief
Chief Mike Krantz joined the Bend Police Department in 2020. He began his career in law enforcement as a police officer for the Portland Police Bureau in 1993. Over the following 27 years, he worked in a variety of divisions including drugs and vice, organized crime, detectives and training, before serving as the Commander of Central Precinct and as an Assistant Chief. As the Chief of Police, he is responsible for overseeing the public safety of the City of Bend and the excellent people who serve this agency.
The Bend Police Department includes sworn officers and non-sworn staff working together to help safeguard the community. Sworn officers serve in teams like Patrol, Investigations, K9, and School Resource Officers, while non-sworn staff support areas such as Records and Technology. Specialized units handle major crimes, drug enforcement, and use tools like drones. Accredited since 2003, the Department follows strict standards for accountability and community trust, regularly updates policies, and encourages public feedback.

The Police Chief’s Advisory Council advises the chief of police and the Police Department by sharing ideas and concerns from people in the community.

Front Lobby Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Front Lobby is closed most major holidays. Lobby opens at 9 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
