This project is evaluating safety and system capacity needs to design a more intuitive multi-lane roundabout.
A 2020 Transportation GO Bond Project.
Thank you, voters!
Reed Market Road is a key east-west connector and the intersection at 15th Street is nearing capacity. Users have reported safety concerns and congestion at this roundabout due to an inconsistent layout.
The Transportation System Plan calls for expanding the partial multi-lane roundabout to a full multi-lane roundabout to improve connectivity, capacity and safety of the intersection.
The project team will look at traffic data and other concerns to develop a concept to improve the roundabout and ensure safe crossings for people walking or riding bikes.
Location

The intersection of Reed Market Road and 15th Street is a critical connection from Century Drive in west Bend to SE 27th Street, and from Greenwood Avenue to Murphy Road. There are several other important transportation projects underway or soon to begin that tie into this work as well, marked in yellow on the map.
Project Benefits
Improvements to the roundabout will aim to reduce congestion and make it easier to navigate for all users. These improvements will be especially important as traffic volume continues to grow with the population.
- The improvements will reduce congestion by providing two lanes to enter the roundabout and two lanes to exit, which will allow more vehicles to travel at the same time. The current roundabout has two lanes entering but just one lane to exit.
- To simplify navigation, all approaches will be redesigned so they’re both intuitive and as similar as possible.
- Pedestrian crossing locations and design will be improved to prioritize safety for people riding a bike or walking.
- Improvements will also bring the roundabout up to current ADA accessibility standards.
Estimated Schedule
