The Bend Police Department Community Academy is recognized both nationally and regionally as a model program.
The Academy takes place each year and begins in April. Interested in joining next year’s class? Applications are now open.
This free program is held each spring and meets once a week for ten weeks. Its purpose is to inform and educate participants about the Bend Police Department and the various ways it carries out its mission.
Topics covered include:
- Narcotics investigations
- Traffic enforcement
- SWAT operations
- K9 unit demonstrations
- Officer safety and survival
Each session is taught by officers and Department staff who specialize in the topic being presented.
The Academy accepts up to 40 participants per session. Classes are typically held on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and take place over 10 weeks each spring. There is no charge to participate in the Community Academy program.
