New Fire Department engine on display Wednesday

Come get a close look at the City’s brand new fire engines! The public is invited to tour one of six new engines from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, at City Hall, 710 NW Wall Street.

The Bend Fire Department will bring the truck for public display prior to the regular City Council meeting on Wednesday. Fire Department officials will be on hand to talk and answer questions.

Last year, the City Council authorized the purchase of six Rosenbauer Pumper Fire Apparatus to improve service to the community. Firefighters are starting to train on the new engines and they will be in service this winter.

The City’s current engines were purchased in 1995, meaning they’ve been in service for 20 years. Generally, the life expectancy of a front line engine is 10 to 15 years.

Replacement of these engines was originally planned several years ago but was delayed due to economic conditions. The fleet is experiencing increased maintenance needs and locating replacement parts has become challenging. These issues increase vehicle downtime and reduce the level of service to the community.
