Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – August 20, 2021

SAFETY FIRST

Our team is committed to keeping local EMS services informed weekly of changes in detours and temporary roads closures. The fire department, police, and sheriff’s offices are notified more often in some cases when changes may affect their access to various neighborhoods. Our goal is to ensure they know exactly how their teams can access areas within the construction project area.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION KIOSK

If the Air Quality Index allows, the City’s informational kiosk in front of Newport Market will be open Tuesday, August 24. Stop by from noon to 1:30 PM and meet with our team to answer any questions regarding this project.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Segment 1

• Nashville Ave. & Harmon Blvd. is scheduled to open by the end of August.
• The 9^th St. & Newport Ave. roundabout is scheduled to open in mid-September.

Nashville/Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 1

Week of August 19 – August 26

• Sidewalks are being formed and poured along Nashville Ave, and landscaped areas are being prepared for plantings.
• Stormwater planters along the 9^th St & Newport Ave roundabout continue to be built.
• Curb will be poured along Newport Ave and in the 9^th St & Newport Ave roundabout.
• Crews are prepping the subgrade for sidewalks.

Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 5 (Juniper St to College Way)

Week of August 19 – August 26

• Cascade Natural Gas continues to relocate their new gas main.
• Bypass pumping lines for the Sewer systems will be installed.

DETOURS IN EFFECT

Traffic Closures and Changes

• Nashville Ave. from Newport Ave. to Pageant Park is closed.
• Newport Ave. from NW 7^th street to NW 10^th street is closed.
• The intersection at NW Juniper St and Newport Ave. will be closed.
• The intersection at NW Knoxville Blvd and Newport Ave. will be closed.
• One-way local access only on Newport Ave from NW Juniper St. to College Way.

All businesses along Newport Ave. will be open through construction. Business access signs will be placed on the following routes:

• NW Portland Ave.
• NW 14^th St.
• NW Newport Ave.

GENERAL PROJECT NOTES

• Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained. New ‘business open’ signage continues to be installed.
• Businesses between NW 9^th St. and NW 11^th St. can be accessed using the rear alley and rear parking areas.
• Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
• Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
• The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
• There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

• EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
• Please help us in spreading the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
• Share the project website (provided below), where others can also sign up for updates using the ‘PROJECT UPDATES’ button.
