Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – February 17, 2022

SAFETY FIRST

Southbound Rockwood Lane, at the College Way roundabout, will be closed for the remainder of Segment 5 construction. These measures are to improve the safety of the users of the Milwaukee Avenue Neighborhood Greenway and to reduce non-local traffic outside of the detour route.

The City of Bend is asking that drivers consider their neighbors and avoid all “shortcuts”. Please be neighborly and use the designated and signed detours (which are shown in the image below.) To maintain safe fire and emergency response in these areas, we cannot close all local neighborhood roads. Using the designated detour – which we understand is a little inconvenient for some – can keep local roads safe for those who live there.

Travel safely, and please continue to be mindful of your surroundings and neighbors. Thank you!

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Arborists will be performing air spading on Saturday, February 19. This work is expected to last half the day and will be done between 9th Street and 10th Street on Newport Avenue.

On President’s Day, February 21, construction activity will operate on the normal workday schedule 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
