Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – October 14, 2022
SAFETY FIRST
Continuing through early November 2022, traffic impacts along Portland Avenue are due to work unrelated to the Newport Avenue Corridor Improvements Project. If you have any specific questions or concerns with this PP&L work, please email pacificpowerconstruction@pacificorp.com directly.
Newport Avenue, between 12th Street to 14th Street, will be opening in the afternoon of October 14. 13th Street, between Newport Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue, will remain closed to allow for construction of the remaining stairways & sidewalks, block walls, and landscaping work in this segment. There may be orange construction cones and barrels adjacent to Newport Avenue. Even though construction crews may not be currently working in all areas of the project limits, these cones indicate hazards or equipment. Please use caution while driving and expect temporary lane shifts and minor delays in these segments as concrete work and landscaping activities continue for several weeks.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
To give the community some much-needed relief from construction impacts and to minimize inconveniences during the holidays, two-way traffic will be maintained through the end of the year, with work only happening on the shoulder. In January, Segment 4 (14th Street roundabout and Newport Avenue up to Knoxville Boulevard) will be closed to traffic, and construction will commence on the final segment. The entire Newport corridor is anticipated to be completed in May 2023, weather permitting.

Above: Paving is complete along Segment 3, roadway striping will be completed soon, and the entire Newport Avenue corridor will be temporarily open until January 2023.
