Beginning Monday, August 6, the stretch from Newport to Galveston will again be closed to traffic in both directions. The reopening was temporary in part to allow better traffic flow due to the partial closure of the Newport roundabout at 14th Street. That work will be completed ahead of schedule and the roundabout will re-open this Friday, August 3.
For approximately two weeks the remaining work, including landscaping, paving, and striping will be completed between Newport and Galveston with the final re-opening of the corridor anticipated to be end of day, August 17.
Open House Reminder: The City of Bend will host an open house at the Westside Village Magnet School, 1101 NW 12th Street, Monday evening August 6, from 5:30 – 7 pm. Information and graphics will be presented regarding Phase 2 construction of 14th Street, the segment between NW Galveston Av and NW Albany Av.
Phase 2 construction is scheduled to begin the week of August 6 with crews beginning work on waterlines and then storm sewer crossings. Traffic control will include flaggers directing vehicles through the affected areas. Work will be initiated near Elgin Av, then heading south. Learn more about this project at the Open House mentioned above.
The southerly lane will be shut down approximately two weeks after August 6. The full segment closure is not scheduled to begin until after Labor Day. Work is expected to be completed by the end of October, 2018.
