Weekly Construction Update Week of September 30th

Beginning Tuesday, October 1st, drivers should prepare for traffic modifications on 15th Street. Drivers can expect posted speeds of 15 mph when entering the roundabout. Please note northbound traffic will merge into the southbound lane. In addition, a full road closure at Golden Gate Place will be in place through late October. 15th Street will continue to be closed to southbound traffic at Ferguson Road with local access to Chloe Lane.

 

Construction activities for the upcoming week include:

  • Please prepare for increased congestion early in the week due to paving work around the roundabout.

  • Over the next several weeks, roundabout work will include saw cutting to create control joints in the concrete, which will help control cracking that occurs due to shrinkage. 

  • Stage II work has begun on the 15th Street and Murphy Road roundabout. Work includes demolition of the existing asphalt, construction of the curb and sidewalks, hauling material fill for landscaping, and installation of remaining storm drainage facilities.

  • Work is continuing on the water quality pond. The pond will capture storm water runoff from streets and sidewalks while mitigating flooding and improving water quality.

  • The new waterline is being installed parallel to the BNSF railroad tracks on Bend Parks and Recreation District and Bend-LaPine School District property.

  • Shoulder work will continue the pedestrian path between Chloe Lane and Ferguson Road.

  

Five Roundabout Safety Tips

  1. Slow down when approaching a roundabout.

  2. Maintain a low, steady speed.

  3. Choose a lane as you approach a roundabout.

  4. Yield to traffic in the roundabout. Vehicles in the roundabout have the right-of-way.

  5. Stay a safe distance behind trucks because they will usually use both lanes. Driving side-by-side a truck in a roundabout can be very risky.
