14th Street Projects and Traffic Detours
Cascade Natural Gas is upgrading its facilities along the section of 14th Street between Newport Avenue and Galveston Avenue starting the week of March 26. Southbound traffic along 14th Street will be restricted 24 hours a day during this approximately 10 week project. Please drive responsibly, use marked detours and be considerate of neighbors in the area.
The City’s work on the 14th Street Reconstruction Project is anticipated to begin April 2 and will also include detours. The City of Bend project improvements take place between Newport Avenue and Galveston Avenue, excluding the roundabouts, and Simpson Avenue to Albany Avenue, including the Simpson roundabout.
The planned improvements will increase safety, mobility and accessibility. The project includes buffered bike lanes, widened sidewalks, planter areas and improved crosswalks. It is the final transportation improvement project under the 2011 voter-approved GO Bond measure.
“Responding to feedback from area businesses, the City opted to approach construction in a manner that may have more impact but will get done quicker. The contractor will combine phases of construction so that the overall project will be wrapped by up September, 2018,” said Project Manager Garrett Sabourin.
“Businesses in the area will remain open and accessible during construction, but will be affected by the construction and associated traffic changes so I encourage you to support them during this time,” said Bend Business Advocate Ben Hemson.
