2020 Street Preservation Work Wraps Up in August

The Streets and Operations Division of the Transportation and Mobility Department is winding up its 2020 seasonal work preserving 78 lane miles of streets around Bend. Street preservation work generally includes chip seal, slurry seal and paving treatments.

“With our ‘keep the good roads good’ philosophy, in recent years we focused efforts on the bigger, busier streets, and this year we shifted more to residential areas, and we’ve continued to improve our overall roadway conditions,” said Transportation and Mobility Director David Abbas.

“Due to COVID-19-related impacts to our contractors, some timelines and schedules for this season changed but all the work to date has been completed on time or ahead of schedule and within the budget we planned,” said Abbas.

Crews this season have completed about 15 lane miles of chip seal work, 40 miles of slurry seal and 11.5 miles of paving. Another 11.5 lane miles of paving will be completed between Thursday and early August.
