Code Ready Smoke Alarm Campaign Coming to Neighborhoods in Bend!

In order to help prevent fire deaths in our community, the Bend Fire Department and Fire Department Volunteers will be visiting neighborhoods throughout Bend in May and June, providing smoke alarms, batteries and home safety education for homeowners at no cost.

The objective of the campaign is to ensure:
• every residence has a working smoke alarm in the right place,
• households know how to test alarms, and
• everyone knows what to do to when there is a fire.

The following neighborhoods were selected as being most at-risk of death or serious injury from fire – older adults, people with disabilities and families with young children and include;

Keystone RV Park, Scandia and Parrell Mobile Home Park, Mt. Vista Mobile Home Park and Four Seasons Mobile Home Park. Additional efforts will focus on the neighborhood area of Riverside and Riverfront Avenue.

Smoke alarms are critical to home fire safety because they alert us to fire in its early stages, especially when we are asleep.

From 2005 through 2009 in Oregon, 39% of residential fires had no smoke alarm present or the smoke alarm did not operate. These fires resulted in 46 fatalities, 283 injuries, and more than $105 million in property loss.
Don’t have a smoke alarm or it’s not working? Call us. We will provide an alarm for you free of charge.
