Franklin Avenue Construction Notice – Aug 21, 2025
Franklin Avenue Construction Notice
Crews are gearing up to begin construction on Franklin Avenue between Fourth and Eighth streets to improve safety for all users. Construction will occur east of Third Street/Highway 97. To reduce impacts to traffic, one direction of travel will remain open during construction. A temporary one-way closure of eastbound Franklin Avenue will be in place from Fourth Street to Eighth Street beginning Sept. 2.* In late October*, after the eastbound side is complete, traffic will switch – eastbound will reopen and westbound will close. Use signed detour routes on Greenwood Avenue and plan for extra travel time. Pedestrian crossings across Franklin will also be limited in the construction area. Access to businesses will remain open throughout construction.

Pre-construction Information Booth – Aug. 25
The City will be hosting a Preconstruction Information Booth on Aug. 25. City staff will be available to explain elements of the project and what to expect during construction. Community members are encouraged to stop by to ask questions and learn more about the construction project.
When: Aug. 25, 4-6 p.m.
Where: Juniper Park, 800 NE Sixth St. at the park space south of tennis courts. The park space is easily accessible from the Seventh Street parking lot.
Construction information will also be available on the project website.
Synergy Project
To increase efficiency, the portion of Franklin Avenue between Fifth and Eighth streets—part of the Bend Bikeway Project—will be constructed as part of the Midtown Crossings Project. The improvements aim to reduce conflict points and calm traffic to improve safety for all users. Replacing and widening sidewalks, shared use path improvements, and new crosswalks will also provide safer connections for pedestrians and bicycles traveling between neighborhoods, schools, parks, and trails.
