Greenwood Construction Begins Monday, July 29 – Plan Ahead

Midtown Crossings Project Update

Greenwood Avenue Quick-Build
CONSTRUCTION STARTING MONDAY!
Jul. 29 – Aug. 14, 2024

For daily updates, check our website: bendoregon.gov/midtowncrossings

Construction on Greenwood Avenue between Wall Street and Second Street begins July 29. Expect delays and full closures with detours. Plan alternate routes when possible.

The City of Bend is beginning work to make Greenwood Avenue safer for everyone who travels on this road. This first phase will include “quick-build” pilot project surface improvements, including paint and lane markers, that will be in place for one year while we solicit feedback from the public and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of these changes.

Plan Ahead

  • Expect day work with lane closures, flaggers and traffic delays up to 15 minutes throughout the duration of the project.
  • In addition, Greenwood Avenue will be CLOSED to all traffic for 48 hours August 5-7 and night closures will take place periodically throughout construction. (See schedule below.)
  • Street parking will be closed on Greenwood Avenue during construction. Check Find Parking for options.
  • Access to some side streets will be limited.
  • For up-to-date project information and daily traffic closure updates during construction visit: bendoregon.gov/midtowncrossings.

Parking Closed During Construction

All parking along Greenwood between Wall Street and Second Street will be closed during this construction time period. Reminder, there is off-street parking available nearby at the Greenwood Wall Lot, Newport Lot, and the Centennial Garage. Check bendoregon.gov/services/parking/find-parking for more information.

About the Project

Quick Build construction on Greenwood Avenue will include:

  • Improved crosswalks and new curb extensions for better visibility of pedestrians.
  • A buffered bike lane on both sides of Greenwood.
  • Reduced travel lanes from four to three (with a center left turn lane).
  • Safer parking along the south side of Greenwood with the removal of parking on the north side of Greenwood.

Improving the transportation system by focusing on safety is a City Council goal. Creating safer connections between neighborhoods, places of work, schools, parks and businesses, for people who ride bikes, walk or roll, is a City priority. The City is designing a variety of safer and more accessible bike and pedestrian routes throughout the community, including the Midtown Crossings project, aimed at linking the Central District to Downtown Bend.
