Midtown Crossing Project Update – 10/18/2024
Midtown Crossings Project Update
Second Street Construction Phase 2 begins Monday, Oct. 21
With the Phase 1 new water line installation complete, crews will begin Phase 2, the complete street reconstruction and removal of the old water lines between Greenwood Avenue and Franklin Avenue. To reduce impacts, Phase 2 work will be completed in two stages and limited to one side of the street at a time when possible.
Notice: In addition to the traffic impacts listed below, a short-term full closure on Second Street between Greeley Avenue and Franklin Avenue is scheduled on Monday & Tuesday, Oct. 21-22, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. This closure is needed to safely remove the trees on this block.
Stage 1: October 2024 – March 2025
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING STAGE 1
Traffic Detours and Delays
- Expect traffic impacts, delays and northbound lane closure. Traffic is OPEN to southbound one-way travel only. (Detour map at right) Use First and Third street when possible.
- Many cross-streets will have limited access.
- Only vehicles traveling east on Greenwood are able to turn onto Second Street.
Local and Business Access Remains OPEN
- Use caution and follow posted signs and directions from flaggers.
- Use posted pedestrian access routes along the west side of Second Street.
- Use First and Third street when possible.
Construction Activities
- Work hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday.
- Noise, vibration and dust during regular working hours.
- We’ll need to remove trees along Second to perform this work. Final landscaping will include planting new trees, shrubs and other plants.
Stay Safe – Use Caution
- Open trenches, full removal of pavement, sidewalks, and the old water lines.
- Stay far away from active construction areas and equipment. This means open trenches, heavy equipment and other hazards throughout the work zone, so be extra cautious near the area.
SAVE THE DATE!
Franklin Avenue will have a second open house
An online Open House for final feedback will open on Dec. 3 through Dec. 17, 2024.
The city and project team will present a more fully developed design that incorporates your feedback from August.
