Midtown Crossings Project Update – Dec. 20, 2024

Midtown Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossings Project Update

Franklin Avenue informational open house is online through Jan. 7

Reminder to participate in the Franklin Avenue online informational open house. This will be the last public review before the City’s project team finalizes the designs and begins construction next year.

Artist rendering of Franklin Avenue improvements

In August, we heard your feedback on how to make walking, biking and rolling safer and more comfortable along Franklin Avenue between Harriman and Fifth streets. Based on that input, and considerations of maintenance, safety, emergency services and other factors, the City is moving forward with a design that will add more separation between lanes of travel and includes new landscaping areas in the public right of way.

ONLINE OPEN HOUSE
Participate now through Jan 7, 2025

Connect online to see the selected design for Franklin Avenue improvements, including safety upgrades for all intersections, new protected bike lanes, and undercrossing improvements.

Stage 1 construction will occur on the east side, with the west side remaining open to southbound traffic only (from Greenwood heading toward Franklin). October through March 2024

Second Street Construction Continues

Our construction team has been working hard to get all of the water lines replaced and install new stormwater facilities on Second Street between Greenwood Avenue and Franklin Avenue. There will be a short pause on work from December 24 through January 5. During this time, the street will be fully open for two-way traffic. The pedestrian detour will remain in place. Please note that construction equipment may remain parked on-site. Continue to use caution while traveling in the area.

Starting January 6, the southbound one-way traffic restriction will resume. Only vehicles traveling east on Greenwood can turn onto Second Street. The crew will begin excavating the eastside of Second Street and finish stormwater work. Please note that excavation work generates more noise than the current construction activities.

Work is expected to move to the west side of Second Street in March. Weather conditions may impact the timeline, so this is still tentative.
