Midtown Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossings: Survey summary results

SURVEY SUMMARY RESULTS

The City of Bend conducted online and in-person outreach between June 13 and July 17, 2022, to gather feedback on preliminary design concepts from the Midtown Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossing Feasibility Study and priorities for future work. Overall, 224 people gave feedback during this outreach period.

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback. We appreciate your time and effort to make Bend safer for everyone.

NEXT STEPS

Over the next two months, the project team is working on the final design concepts. Here’s what’s coming up:

  • Late August: Survey summary presentations to various committees
  • September: The project team will draft the final Midtown Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossing Feasibility Study which includes final design concept recommendations.
  • October 19, 2022: The project team will present the Study and recommendations to City Council.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Midtown Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossing Feasibility Study will find opportunities to improve east west connectivity through safer walking and biking connections in the Central Core area of Bend.

This study will look at what’s possible for new and improved pedestrian and bicycle crossings of the US 97 Bend Parkway and Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad at the following locations:

  • Greenwood Avenue existing undercrossing
  • Franklin Avenue existing undercrossing
  • Hawthorne Avenue crossing

This project was identified by the community as a need during two large planning efforts for the future of Bend’s Transportation System and Core Area. It is an identified project in both the Transportation System Plan as well as the Core Area Tax Increment Finance Plan and Report.
