Murphy Corridor Improvements Project Update – March 11, 2021

Thank you for your interest in the Murphy Corridor Improvements Project. The Murphy Corridor Improvements Project, which is fully funded through construction, is part of the City of Bend’s Transportation Plan. Murphy Road is a busy collector route located in Southeast Bend. The project includes transportation improvements along the existing corridor from Parrell Road to Brosterhous Road and the Murphy Road extension from Brosterhous Road over the BNSF Railway, connecting to 15th Street at Golden Gate Place.

The City is constructing the final segments of the project. The south and east leg of the Murphy Road/Country Club Drive roundabout opened in November 2020. The remaining legs of the roundabout will open in Summer 2021. Complete street upgrades between Country Club Drive and Parrell Road began in the Fall of 2020. They will be completed in Summer 2021, weather permitting. Street upgrade improvements include a two-way left-turn lane, shared-use paths, bike lanes, protected pedestrian crossings, street lighting, and landscaping between sidewalks and curbs. Construction of a new two-lane roadway connecting Brosterhous Road to 15th Street, including a crossing over the BNSF Railway, is underway and expected to be completed in Summer 2021.

Upcoming Construction Activities

• Sidewalks will be poured between Country Club Drive and Benham Road.
• Demolition work will continue between Country Club Drive and Parrell Road.
• Base rock will be laid to provide stabilization under the new road.
• Excavation work continues in advance of the construction of the westside concrete abutment, the substructure providing support for the extension of Murphy Road over BNSF Railway, connecting to 15th Street at Golden Gate Place
• Continued installation of catch basins, stormwater crossings, irrigation sleeves, and streetlight conduits.
• Drywell testing will take place.

Traffic Patterns

The south and east leg of the Murphy Road/Country Club Drive roundabout are open. Travelers should expect delays and are advised to follow detours. Local access to residences and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times. Please be cautious and obey traffic control devices, flaggers, road closures, and detours.

Detours

Westbound Detour: Take Murphy Road to Country Club Drive. Turn right on Knott Road. Turn right on China Hat Road. Turn right on Parrell Road.

Eastbound Detour: Take Murphy Road to Parrell Road. Continue on Parrell Road, turn right on Brosterhous Road, and follow to stop sign. Turn right on Brosterhous Road and follow through Brosterhous Roundabout to Murphy Road.
