Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – July 1, 2022
SAFETY FIRST
Traffic patterns have changed near Newport Ave. There may be orange construction cones and barrels adjacent to Newport Avenue. Even though construction crews may not be present in all areas of the project limits, these cones indicate hazards or equipment. Please use caution while driving on the unpaved section of Newport Ave.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Newport Avenue from 10th Street to 11th Street will be open to the public by the end of the working day on July 1, 2022.
In anticipation of the busy July 4 weekend, the entire Newport Avenue corridor will be temporarily opened to traffic from July 1 until July 5. Please drive carefully, as there will be areas of temporary gravel roadways and construction equipment staged for Segment 2C and Segment 3. On July 5, Newport Avenue will be closed again for Segment 2C & Segment 3 construction (12th Street up to the 14th Street roundabout).
Construction update for June 30 – July 7
Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 2B (10th Street to 12th Street)
- Roadway striping is completed
- Traffic control devices are removed, and Segment 2B is opened to the public.
Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 2C & Segment 3 (12th Street to 14th Street)
- On July 5, traffic control devices are installed, and the detour shown below is implemented.
- Erosion Control is installed
- Demolition of existing surfaces begins.
- The water bypass is installed.

Traffic Closures and Changes
- Newport Avenue, west of 11th Street to 14th Street, is closed.
- 12th Street, north and south of Newport Avenue, will be closed.
Access to all businesses along Newport Avenue will be open through construction.
GENERAL PROJECT NOTES
- Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained.
- Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
- Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
- The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
- There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

- EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
- Please help us spread the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
