Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – October 21, 2022

Project update emails will be sent periodically during the reduced construction window. Our Public Involvement Team will be available for questions via email or the project phone line.

SAFETY FIRST

Continuing through early November 2022, traffic impacts along Portland Avenue will be due to work unrelated to the Newport Avenue Corridor Improvements Project. If you have any specific questions or concerns with this PP&L work, please email pacificpowerconstruction@pacificorp.com directly.

13th Street, between Newport Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue, will remain closed to allow for the construction of stairways and sidewalks, block walls, and landscaping work remaining in this segment. There may be orange construction cones and barrels adjacent to Newport Avenue. Even though construction crews may not be currently working in all areas of the project limits, these cones indicate hazards or equipment. Please use caution while driving and expect temporary lane shifts and minor delays in these segments as concrete work and landscaping activities continue for several weeks.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

To give the community some much-needed relief from construction impacts and to minimize inconveniences during the holidays, two-way traffic will be maintained through the end of the year, with work only happening on the shoulder. In January,
Segment 4 (14th Street roundabout and Newport Avenue up to Knoxville Boulevard) will be closed to traffic, and construction will commence on the final segment. The entire Newport corridor is anticipated to be completed by May 2023, weather permitting.
