Olney Improvements Project Update -November 7, 2025

PROJECT SCHEDULE UPDATES

  • NE Olney Avenue (between NW Wall Street and NE First Street) is anticipated to remain closed through January 2026. The timeline for completing work in this area depends on the schedule of BNSF Railway, which recently shared an updated plan extending into January. The City is actively coordinating with BNSF Railway and doing everything possible to support the completion of their work at the railroad tracks as soon as possible.

Because final paving, striping, and landscaping require warmer weather, these finishing project touches can’t be completed until spring 2026. In the meantime, the City is coordinating with BNSF Railway to allow a temporary full reopening of the roadway from late January to April 2026 using temporary pavement. A two-week full closure is expected in April 2026 to complete final paving and striping.

  • NE Olney Avenue (between NE First Street and NE Second Street) will remain closed through November 2025, with reopening anticipated in early December 2025.

ACTIVE WORK ZONE: NE Olney Avenue from NW Wall Street to NE Second Street

We’re excited to share that the new sewer line along NE Olney Avenue is now fully installed! This major milestone follows months of essential sewer construction work from February through October, including a complex underground bore beneath the railroad tracks. The final sewer connection was completed at the end of October at the NW Wall Street intersection, which required a temporary three-day closure. Good news—no further closures at this intersection are expected with this project.

Work continues this month with the installation of the new water line, also running beneath the railroad.

In addition, a new stormwater infiltration pond is being built at the corner of NE Olney Avenue and NE Second Street. This is part of a broader effort to improve stormwater management throughout the corridor.

Crews are also continuing to remove old, decommissioned sewer and water lines to make way for the upgraded infrastructure.
