Re-roofing your home in Bend? Did you know a permit is required?

Did you know that a permit is required for re-roofing your home in Bend?

Oftentimes homeowners are not aware of when a permit is required to perform renovations and maintenance on their homes.  Some jurisdictions do not require permits for re-roofing residences but within the City of Bend, a permit is required.  

Why?
The City of Bend is located within a legally determined Wildfire Hazard Zone and as such requires permits for re-roofing in order to verify the materials used protect against wildfire as required by the State of Oregon Residential Specialty Code (Section R105.2, 18, exception 1).

Roofing materials of all residences and their accessory structures shall be asphalt, slate, tile, clay or concrete shingles or metal roofing and must comply with Oregon code referenced above.  Untreated wood shingles and shake roofs are not permitted.
