Surface Water Project News

Thanks for visiting the City of Bend’s Surface Water Improvement Project website.

I want to thank everyone who made it to the project’s open house on September 27, 2011. We had a great turnout and received lots of good questions. We’re in the process of updating the FAQ page with answers to some of the most common questions we heard. Questions and answers have also been documented in the Open House Summary.

If you were not able to attend, we have posted the open house materials on the project website.

In September, Council continued to move the project forward. On September 21, the City Council approved a contract to purchase $4 million of steel pipe for the project. The price of steel is expected to rise in the next year, and purchasing the steel early will take advantage of current lower prices.

Design on all project elements – intake facility, pipeline, water treatment plant, and hydroelectric facility – will continue through next spring and into summer. Construction is currently anticipated to begin next summer.

As always, feel free to leave a comment or send an email to surfacewater@ci.bend.or.us.

Happy autumn,

Heidi Lansdowne
City of Bend Project Manager
