SAFETY FIRST

5 Safety Tips for Back-To-School Season

  • Know where the school zones are located on your daily commute. 
  • In a school zone when flashers are blinking, stop and yield to pedestrians crossing the crosswalk or intersection. 
  • Never pass a bus loading or unloading children.
  • Always stop for a school patrol officer or crossing guard holding a stop sign. 
  • Be alert for children! 

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Week of September 4 – September 8 

Crews will pause construction in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 4.

Modernization work on Wilson Avenue from Fourth Street through Centennial Street is scheduled through the fall. Please be prepared for flaggers and a westbound detour between Fourth and Ninth Street.

STAGE ONE: Fourth Street through Centennial Street 

  • Stormwater facilities will be installed on 5th Street.
  • Crews will install subgrade on the southside of Wilson Avenue.  

WILSON AVENUE WESTBOUND DETOUR

Take Ninth Street south to Reed Market Road. Turn right on Reed Market Road. Turn right on Third Street and continue to Wilson Avenue.

Stage 1: May 15, 2023 – Fall 2023 

Modernization of Fourth Street through Centennial Street

Improvements include:

  • Crossing at Fifth Street with refuge island to help protect pedestrians
  • Dura-curbs used for on-street bike lane protection
  • Curb extensions to improve the visibility of pedestrians along Wilson Avenue
  • Crosswalk lighting will be added at the Second Street and Fifth Street pedestrian crossings

  • Access to all area businesses along the construction area will be maintained.
  • Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
  • Daytime work hours are in effect from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. 
  • There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.
