Wilson Avenue Corridor Project Update – September 15, 2023

SAFETY FIRST

Fall Driving 

The fall season means shorter days and less daylight which brings additional safety issues. The sun spends proportionately more time lower in the sky – often directly in your line of vision. During those periods it can be blinding if you’re driving toward it. Be prepared with sunglasses and a clean windshield. 

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Week of September 18 – September 22 

Modernization work on Wilson Avenue from Fourth Street through Centennial Street is scheduled through the fall. Please be prepared for flaggers and a westbound detour between Fourth and Ninth Street. 

Crews will work Saturday, September 16, to prepare for pouring curbs and sidewalks on the southside of Wilson Avenue. 

STAGE ONE: Fourth Street through Centennial Street 

• Crews will continue prep work and begin pouring curbs on the southside of Wilson Avenue.
• Irrigation sleeves and storm drainage will be installed. 

WILSON AVENUE WESTBOUND DETOUR

Take Ninth Street south to Reed Market Road. Turn right on Reed Market Road. Turn right on Third Street and continue to Wilson Avenue.

Stage 1: May 15, 2023 – Fall 2023 

Modernization of Fourth Street through Centennial Street

Improvements include:

• Crossing at Fifth Street with refuge island to help protect pedestrians
• Dura-curbs used for on-street bike lane protection
• Curb extensions to improve the visibility of pedestrians along Wilson Avenue
• Crosswalk lighting will be added at the Second Street and Fifth Street pedestrian crossings

GENERAL PROJECT NOTES 

• Access to all area businesses along the construction area will be maintained.
• Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
• Daytime work hours are in effect from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. 
• There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.
