Climate Action Steering Committee

The Climate Action Steering Committee (CASC) engaged the Bend community to develop the Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP) and recommend the CCAP to City Council.

The Climate Action Steering Committee is no longer active

The CASC completed its work in December 2019 and is no longer an active Committee. For details and an application to the proposed permanent Environment and Climate Committee (ECC), see the Sustainability webpage. The ECC will be overseeing implementation for the Community Climate Action Plan.

The City Council adopted the Bend Community Climate Action Plan on December 4, 2019 in Resolution 3180.

The Bend Community Climate Action Plan will guide the City and the community in pursuit of the goals to reduce fossil fuel use by 40% by 2030 and by 70% by 2050 as established in Resolution 3044.

The CASC had 13 members who reflect the diverse views of Bend’s community:

  • One business representative from the Bend Economic Development Advisory Board (BEDAB)
  • Two business representatives from at-large businesses
  • Two environmental community representatives
  • Two local government or institutional representatives
  • Two at-large individuals
  • Two subject matter experts
  • Two youth members (under 18 at initial appointment)

In Fall 2018, the CASC convened topic specific working groups to support the development of the Bend Community Climate Action Plan in the areas of energy supply, energy in buildings, transportation, and waste and materials. The working groups, made up of subject matter experts, key stakeholders, and interested community members, played a vital role in brainstorming and developing potential actions the community can take to reduce our fossil fuel use.
