Hawthorne Connections Study
This project is a study evaluating gaps in the City’s Key Walking and Biking Routes to surrounding the Hawthorne Crossing bridge project. Two street segments have gaps between planned or on-going projects.

Connecting gaps in the low-stress biking and walking network
The City of Bend is creating safer, more accessible routes for walking, biking or rolling, referred to as the “low-stress network.”
This study will look at two road segments with gaps between planned or on-going projects:
- Hawthorne Avenue between Third Street and Fifth Street
To provide a safer, more comfortable route across Third Street to popular east‑side destinations like Juniper Swim & Fitness Center, and access Hawthorne Crossing from the east safety.
- Harriman Street between Greenwood Avenue and Franklin Avenue
To create a safer, better connection between Greenwood Avenue and Franklin Avenue, access Hawthorne Crossing from the west safety.

This study will develop and evaluate options for these segments to help provide better connectivity for people walking and biking on the City’s low-stress network.
Street improvements will make it easier for people to travel around Bend and support future access to the planned Hawthorne Crossing, a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Parkway and Railroad.
