Awbrey Butte Waterline Project Update – April 17, 2023

The Awbrey Butte Waterline Improvement Project will improve Bend’s ability to deliver water across the City and increase the system’s resiliency and reliability by installing approximately 4.25 miles of pipeline.

You are invited to an informational meeting on May 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to learn about the upcoming construction of Phase 1 for the Awbrey Butte Waterline Improvement Project. Phase 1 improvements will begin in June and be constructed in stages through the winter of 2023 to minimize traffic impacts. In advance of construction activities in your neighborhood, residents will receive a more detailed notification with specific information regarding construction impacts.

Week of April 24, 2023

Cascade Natural Gas will be relocating the gas main and gas services

  • Awbrey Road: Utica Avenue to Wilmington Avenue
  • Second Street: Utica Avenue to Vicksburg
  • Vicksburg Avenue

During the relocation work, you can expect a brief disruption to service, which Cascade Natural Gas will coordinate. Motorists should expect single lane closures (see map below). Access to all area businesses and residences will be maintained.

 

Beginning the week of April 24 through the end of May 2023

Geotechnical explorations to inspect and test soil and rock in project area

Cascade Natural Gas work zone and lane closureThe map to the right shows the Cascade Natural Gas relocation work area beginning of week of April 24 through the end of May 2023. Motorists should expect single lane closures. Access to all area businesses and residences will be maintained.

Portland Avenue roadway improvements will be built as a synergy project concurrent with the Awbrey Butte Distribution Improvement Project. Safety, traffic calming, and multimodal connectivity improvements along the Portland Avenue corridor are currently being evaluated and are in the planning phase. The design of potential improvements along the corridor will begin this spring. The City plans to hold an in-person meeting to share potential alternatives and get input from the community this summer.

The City is committed to keeping neighbors informed throughout the project through the project website, public informational meetings, mailings, emails, and door hangers. In advance of construction activities in your neighborhood, residents will receive a more detailed notification with specific information regarding construction impacts. TENTATIVE PROJECT SCHEDULE

The project design and construction will be completed in phases. The schedule below will be updated as more information becomes available and is subject to change. This project is utilizing an alternative delivery method known as Progressive Design-Build, which includes selecting the contractor and engineer simultaneously. Therefore, some of the design will overlap with portions of construction throughout the project. Individual properties may not be impacted for the entire duration of the construction schedules presented below.

Tentative Design Schedule:

  • Subprojects 1, 3, 4, 5, & 6: September 2022 – fall 2023
  • Subprojects 2, 7, 8, & 9: November 2022 – spring 2024

Tentative Construction Schedule:
