Awbrey Waterline Improvement Project Update – Dec. 19, 2024

Awbrey Butte Waterline Improvement Project

The Awbrey Butte Waterline Improvement Project will improve Bend’s ability to deliver water across the City and increase the system’s resiliency and reliability by installing approximately 4.25 miles of pipeline.

We appreciate your patience during Phase 2 of the Awbrey Butte Waterline Improvement Project as we work to upgrade the water distribution system.

Project Update

Subproject 2: Portland Avenue Improvements

Phase 2 work on Portland Avenue, which started on November 12, is progressing smoothly. This phase involves replacing and/or upsizing approximately 3,500 feet of existing water pipe along portions of Portland Avenue between NW Ninth Street and NW First Street.

Please be aware that there will be no construction activities during the holiday period between December 23, 2024, and January 2, 2025. Our construction crew will be taking a break during this time. Portland Avenue will continue to be fully closed during this period. Traffic will be rerouted to Newport Avenue, so please follow the posted detour for your safety and convenience.

Subproject 8: New Awbrey Transmission Improvements

Crews have installed the waterline to the site of the future Awbrey Reservoir Valve Building. This building will house the valve system responsible for controlling water flows in and out of the Awbrey Reservoir. This phase of the project is on track for completion in spring.

Upcoming City Projects

In addition to work on Portland Avenue, improvements are coming to the intersection of Wall Street and Olney Avenue. This work is part of a broader effort to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety, improve traffic flow and upgrade critical infrastructure throughout the area.

Olney Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements

Changes are coming to Olney Ave to make it a safer road to drive, walk, bike and roll.

An upcoming preconstruction open house is planned for January to provide information about the Olney Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements project. This event will offer an opportunity for community members to meet the project team and learn more about the project schedule and what to expect during construction. bendoregon.gov/olneypedbike

Westside Pump Station

This project will provide needed electrical and pump station improvements at two locations – Awbrey Glen Lift Station and Westside Lift Station. Learn more about the project schedule at bendoregon.gov/sewer-improvements.
