Columbia Roundabout Improvements Project Update – May 13, 2021

COLORADO AVENUE/COLUMBIA STREET INTERSECTION IS SCHEDULED TO RE-OPEN FRIDAY, MAY 14, BY END OF DAY

SIMPSON AVENUE/COLUMBIA STREET INTERSECTION IS SCHEDULED TO CLOSE MONDAY, MAY 17, AT 5:00 AM

SAFETY FIRST

Simpson Avenue & Columbia Street are becoming a work zone. 

Motorists – it is extremely important to obey the road closure signs.

Pedestrians & Bicyclists – circulation and closures continue to shift as construction begins, so continue to be aware of your surroundings and follow designated routes.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Colorado Avenue/Columbia Street Intersection – May 13 through May 14

  • Complete striping
  • Complete landscaping
  • Final Cleanup
  • Remove detour signage 
  • Open Columbia Street/Colorado Avenue roundabout to the public

Simpson Avenue/Columbia Street Intersection – May 17 through May 18

  • The Simpson Avenue/Columbia Street intersection will be closed beginning May 17. Construction commences on this roundabout and is anticipated to last through late July/early August.
  • Project detour routes are put in place.
  • Erosion control installed
  • Pedestrian access routes installed
  • Preparation for new NW & SE sidewalks
  • Weather permitting, Pour new NW and SE sidewalks 

DETOUR – COLORADO AVENUE/COLUMBIA STREET

· The Colorado Avenue/Columbia Street intersection remains closed. With the anticipation of the Columbia Street/Colorado Avenue roundabout opening on Friday, May 14, it is important to follow detour routes until the signs are completely removed and the roundabout is officially open to the public. Until then – the following detour remains in effect.

DETOUR – SIMPSON AVENUE/COLUMBIA STREET

· The Colorado Avenue/Columbia Street intersection will be closing Monday, May 17, and the following detour will begin. Construction commences on this roundabout and is anticipated to last through late July/early August.

Business Access will remain open on all legs of this project affected by the upcoming detour.
