Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – February 03, 2023

The City of Bend is asking that drivers consider their neighbors and avoid all shortcuts. Please be neighborly and use the designated and signed detours (shown below). We understand it may be a little inconvenient, but using the designated detour will help keep local roads safe for those who live there, especially the one-way designation on Milwaukee Avenue.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR FEBRUARY 2 – FEBRUARY 9

The Newport Corridor Improvements Project’s pipe replacement has been a logistical puzzle when installing and replacing utilities. This picture shows the installation of the new sewer main and service connections while crews work around the soon-to-be-replaced exiting storm main (the corrugated steel pipe in the photo). These additional steps are necessary to maintain working sewer, water, and storm utilities during construction.

Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 4 (Knoxville Boulevard through the 14th Street Roundabout)

  • Construction of the stormwater planters continues.
    • Backfill and compaction of completed planters.
    • Excavation begins for the stormwater planter on 14th Street.
    • Forming of the walls for the stormwater planter on Newport Avenue.
  • Replacement of the Sewer main continues.
    • Testing of the new main is completed.
    • Connection of sewer services continues.
    • Reconfiguration of the sewer bypass system to the new sewer main.
  • Replacement of the Stormwater system continues.
    • Stormwater main on 14th Street continues to be replaced.

Traffic Closures and Changes

  • NW Newport Avenue closed from Knoxville Boulevard through the 14th Street roundabout
  • NW 14th Street closed between NW Ogden Avenue and NW Milwaukee Avenue (no alley outlets onto 14th Street)
  • NW 15th Street closed between NW Milwaukee and NW Newport Avenue
  • NW Milwaukee Avenue, one-way eastbound traffic only from NW Stannium Road to NW 12th Street

Newport avenue will be closed beginning January 9 to complete the final phase of construction

GENERAL PROJECT NOTES

  • Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained.
  • Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
  • Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
  • The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
  • There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

  • EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
  • Please help us spread the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
  • Share the project website (provided below), where others can also sign up for project updates.
