Midtown Crossings Project Update – March 19, 2025

Second Street Improvements Update

TRAFFIC ALERT: Second Street Detour Changes to One-way Northbound Only – Effective March 24

Crews are almost complete with Stage 1 on Second Street. They will move work to the westside of Second and continue working to build curbs and sidewalks, and then pave the new road in Stage 2.

Starting March 24, construction work will move to the west side and traffic will switch to the east, travelling northbound only, from Franklin Ave toward Greenwood Ave.

Second Street construction detour beginning MAR 24 2025 includes third street and business access down first street and side streets

Stage 2: March 24 through May 2025

  • To reduce impacts, work will be contained to one side of the street when possible.
  • We’ll now work on the west side, with the east side reopening to one-way northbound traffic (Franklin to Greenwood).

Business Access Remains Open During Construction

  • Vehicles approaching from Greenwood will need to detour to Third Street to travel north from Franklin Avenue, or take First Street.
  • Cross traffic on Hawthorne, Irving, Greeley or the alleys will need to turn north on Second and may not be able to cross Second while work is performed.

Keep it Local, Even Through the Detour!

Thank you for continuing to support businesses during construction.

Work is expected to be completed in late May. Please keep in mind, weather conditions may impact this timeline.

The Midtown Crossings Project is improving east-west travel between downtown and the Central District and includes improvements to four key connections in the area: Greenwood Avenue, Hawthorne Avenue, Franklin Avenue, and Second Street.
