Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – April 1, 2022
SAFETY FIRST
The construction crews will remove most traffic control devices in Segment 2A and Segment 5 by Friday, April 8 (weather permitting). Final landscaping and concrete work in these areas will be ongoing, and traffic lane adjustments may be required at times. Flaggers, cones, and barrels will be in the roadway intermittently; please be aware of these activities in the upcoming weeks.
As with all major road changes, approach all intersections with additional awareness as drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians get familiar with the new traffic detour.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Above: Segment 2A paving is ready for the third of three layers of asphalt. The wearing course allows for a 2-inch-thick layer of material that, when needed, can be efficiently removed and replaced without changing the designed grade of the roadway.

Above: Asphalt is laid at a minimum temperature of 300º Fahrenheit. This temperature helps facilitate the compaction of the asphalt to meet ODOT specifications.
