Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – January 20, 2023

SAFETY FIRST

Milwaukee Avenue, from Stannium Road to 12th Street, has been converted to a one-way eastbound local-access-only road through May 2023. This additional traffic control change is in place to improve safety for residents by minimizing cut-through traffic volumes along Milwaukee Avenue and allowing space for the temporary pedestrian channelizers that provide a safe pedestrian route around the construction area.

During the first two weeks of construction, we observed vehicles attempting to turn west on Milwaukee Avenue around the closure signage at 14th St. As with any construction project, safety is our number one priority. Bend Police have been advised of vehicles going around barricades and traveling the wrong way on Milwaukee Avenue and are prepared to enforce the one-way eastbound local access route to ensure public safety. We ask that drivers follow marked detour routes, closure signage, and traffic changes as we complete the final segment of this project. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this period.
