Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – January 20, 2023

SAFETY FIRST

Milwaukee Avenue, from Stannium Road to 12^th Street, has been converted to a one-way eastbound local-access-only road through May 2023. This additional traffic control change is in place to improve safety for residents by minimizing cut-through traffic volumes along Milwaukee Avenue and allowing space for the temporary pedestrian channelizers that provide a safe pedestrian route around the construction area.

During the first two weeks of construction, we observed vehicles attempting to turn west on Milwaukee Avenue around the closure signage at 14^th St. As with any construction project, safety is our number one priority. Bend Police have been advised of vehicles going around barricades and traveling the wrong way on Milwaukee Avenue and are prepared to enforce the one-way eastbound local access route to ensure public safety. We ask that drivers follow marked detour routes, closure signage, and traffic changes as we complete the final segment of this project. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this period.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR JANUARY 19 – JANUARY 26

Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 4 (Knoxville Boulevard through the 14^th Street Roundabout)

• Construction of the stormwater planters continues.
  • Weather permitting, concrete will be poured.
  • Stormwater planter excavation begins on Newport Avenue.
• Replacement of the sewer main continues.
• Replacement of the 14^th Street water main is completed.
• Replacement of the stormwater system begins.

Traffic Closures and Changes

• NW Newport Avenue closed from Knoxville Boulevard through the 14^th Street roundabout
• NW 14^th Street closed between NW Ogden Avenue and NW Milwaukee Avenue (no alley outlets onto 14^th Street)
• NW 15^th Street closed between NW Milwaukee and NW Newport Avenue
• NW Milwaukee Avenue, one-way eastbound traffic only from NW Stannium Road to NW 12^th Street

GENERAL PROJECT NOTES

• Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained.
• Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
• Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
• The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
• There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

• EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
• Please help us spread the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
