Wilson Avenue Corridor Project Update – October 23, 2023

SAFETY FIRST

Autumn brings falling leaves which can be slippery when wet, cover traffic lines, and can even decrease visibility if not properly cleaned from your windshield.

SAFETY TIP: Take extra caution on leaf-covered roadways, especially when turning.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Week of October 23 – October 27

Modernization work on Wilson Avenue from Fourth Street through Centennial Street is progressing. Please be prepared for flaggers and a westbound detour between Fourth and Ninth Street.

STAGE ONE: Fourth Street through Centennial Street

  • Finish grading work will take place on the south side of Wilson Avenue in preparation for paving next week.
  • Final work will take place on sedimentation manholes on SE Douglas Street.
  • Crews will finish pouring curbs on the south side of Wilson Avenue.

ADVANCE NOTICE OF UPCOMING WORK:
PAVING: Wilson Avenue Between Centennial Street and Fifth Street

Beginning Wednesday, October 25, through Friday, October 27, crews will be paving Wilson Avenue between Centennial Street and 5th Street. Please avoid parking on Wilson Avenue. Driveways will remain open.

STAGE 2: Second Street to Fourth Street
NOVEMBER 6, 2023 – JUNE 2024

The next phase of the Wilson Avenue Corridor Project will begin on November 6.

Stage 2 Improvements Include:

  • Safer connections for pedestrians and bicyclists at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Second Street.
  • Upgraded signal and protected intersection design for bikes at the intersection of Third Street and Wilson Avenue.
  • Infrastructure improvements, including the replacement of aging waterlines and installation of stormwater infrastructure.

DETOUR BEGINNING NOVEMBER 6:

Westbound Wilson Avenue will be closed to all traffic between Ninth Street and Hill Street.

WILSON AVENUE WESTBOUND DETOUR

Take Ninth Street south to Reed Market Road. Turn right on Reed Market Road. Turn right on Third Street and continue to Wilson Avenue.

Stage 1: May 15, 2023 – Fall 2023
Modernization of Fourth Street through Centennial Street

Improvements include:

  • Crossing at Fifth Street with refuge island to help protect pedestrians
  • Dura-curbs used for on-street bike lane protection
  • Curb extensions to improve the visibility of pedestrians along Wilson Avenue
  • Crosswalk lighting will be added at the Second Street and Fifth Street pedestrian crossings

  • Access to all area businesses along the construction area will be maintained.
  • Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
  • Daytime work hours are in effect from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. 
  • There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.
