Local students from the Bend homeschool community will come together to celebrate Arbor Week on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Hollinshead Park in the Orchard District. The event will kick off at 1:30 p.m. with a tree planting, followed by tree-related activities for the students such as tree identification and tree trivia contests. Each student will go home with a seedling tree as a thank you for their participation.
The event is a partnership between the City of Bend and Bend Park and Recreation District as part of the collaborative efforts as a Tree City USA.
The City received a booster grant from the non-profit Oregon Community Trees and additional funding from Pacific Corp to help purchase the locally grown trees for the planting event and supply blue spruce seedlings and prizes for the students.
This event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to come and celebrate Arbor Week.
The Bend City Council on Wednesday proclaimed April 7 through April 13, 2019, “Arbor Week for the City of Bend,” and the proclamation can be found here.
