Newport Avenue and College Way roundabout closing Sunday

The roundabout at Newport Avenue and College Way will be closed for up to a week starting at 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, as part of the 2014 Street Preservation and Maintenance Program.

Heavy traffic loads have deteriorated the roundabout. The City will rebuild and strengthen the roundabout with a higher-standard asphalt that will tolerate expected traffic loads for up to 40 years with only minimal maintenance. The project requires fully closing the road to traffic night and day. With a goal to minimize disruption of traffic and the impact on area businesses, the City has offered the contractor a $10,000 incentive to finish it in three days.
